Thandi

Thandi Haruperi (www.haruperi.com) is an exponent for self belief and self actualization and believes that we all have the ability to learn and grow from our experiences no matter how challenging and seemingly insurmountable. Translating this belief into action, Thandi founded RestorEgo Consultancy, a Training and Development Consultancy working around areas of health promotion, social inclusion, diversity and personal and organisational development to help others realise their full potential in spite of their situations.

Described as one of the UK's most passionate advocates for equality, Thandi has been especially instrumental in highlighting the issues and needs of those affected by HIV and AIDS. Most of her work has been around fighting stigma and discrimination and challenging attitudes and stereotypes. Thandi has given radio & television interviews, written articles and spoken in schools, colleges, hospitals and universities to a variety of audiences including medical students and health care practitioners and has contributed to The All Party Parliamentary Group on AIDS and the London Assembly amongst others.

After her divorce in 1989 and with two daughters, Thandi found herself with no employment, no money and no commercially attractive CV. Needing a fresh start she emigrated to the UK and several years later she found herself having to come to terms with an HIV positive diagnosis. She understands the anxiety of an uncertain future and the frustration and consequences of complacency and mediocrity. This drives her passion for empowering and enabling herself and others achieve greater potential and hopefully live more fulfilled.

Thandi has held a number of Board positions in the HIV sector. She holds a BSc in Health Care Law and Ethics from Brunel University and is currently studying for a MSc in Change Management at Surrey University.

Today Thandi is not only alive and well, and travels around teaching and sharing the strategies and technologies that she has used to embrace change and create a more fulfilling life for herself whilst consciously living on borrowed time. She consistently strives to make her work dynamic, fun, experiential, and participative. Her passion, combined with open and often self-deprecating humour, is her trademark.

A lifelong learner Thandi is growing all the time and continues to undertake a wide range of ongoing personal development and skills training which further contribute to the underlying principles upon which the Consultancy was founded. Hopefully this will go some way to encouraging others to make changes that enable them to get the best out of their lives in spite of their circumstances. Her two daughters are now young ladies giving her time to enjoy her other interests in fashion, property management, inspirational reading and writing, African art, and learning to dance.
